Iran: Afghan security worsened after US invasion
Iran says the security situation has deteriorated in Afghanistan since the US invasion of the country in 2001. Iran’s deputy ambassador to the United Nations Es-haq Al-e-Habib said in a Security Council meeting on Afghanistan and Central Asia that US invasions have restored security to no regional country. Al-e-Habib added that security can only be safeguarded within comprehensive regional frameworks. He also called for increased economic cooperation with Afghanistan to eliminate the roots of terrorism and extremism there. Afghanistan is still grappling with major security challenges, including terrorist attacks by such groups as Daesh terrorists, sixteen years after the US-led war on the country. This is while uprooting terrorism was the stated main objective of the invasion.
