Hotel attack death toll in Kabul rises to 18
The death toll from a deadly overnight raid on an international hotel in the Afghan capital has risen to 18, the majority being foreigners. The Afghan interior ministry says 14 foreigners and 4 Afghans were killed when gunmen attacked the Intercontinental Hotel in Kabul. So far, Ukraine has confirmed that one of its nationals is among the dead. The brazen overnight raid at one of Kabul’s main hotels began late Saturday. Five gunmen opened fire at guests inside the five-star hotel. Pitched gun battles lasted for more than 13 hours into Sunday morning, when officials said all the attackers had been killed. The Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attack. It was the second time the hotel was attacked in the past seven years.
