Pyongyang condemns new US sanctions
North Korea accuses the United States of trying to aggravate the situation on the Korean Peninsula by slapping more sanctions on Pyongyang. A North Korean media report, citing a foreign ministry official, said the punitive measures clearly demonstrate Washington’s ill-intentions toward the current inter-Korean talks. The report also called on the U-S to stop what it described as an anachronistic policy toward Pyongyang. On Wednesday, the U-S treasury expanded its sanctions against North Korea, targeting nine entities, 16 people and six North Korean ships. Washington says the measures are aimed at stopping the North’s nuclear weapons program. It comes at a time when the two Korea’s are engaged in face-to-face talks aimed at defusing tensions on the Peninsula.
