Ukraine to get 'occupied regions' back from Russia even by force
Russia has reacted angrily to the passage of a bill by the Ukrainian parliament which calls for the re-integration of Ukraine’s east. The Russian foreign ministry has said it considers the legislation as a declaration of war. The bill was passed by the parliament in Kiev on Thursday. It describes the eastern region as “territory under occupation by Russia” that the bill described as an aggressor state. It also stipulates that Donetsk and Lugansk regions must be taken back even by military force if necessary. President Petro Proshenko has welcomed the law, saying it will help the return of eastern Ukraine by political and diplomatic means. Relations between Moscow and Kiev soured following the toppling of former president Viktor Yanukovych in 2014. This promoted pro-Russia fighters to take over Ukraine’s east.
