Senators say Havana diplomats likely attacked
Tensions simmer between the US and Cuba as Washington probes into the illnesses reported by its embassy staff in Havana. In a Senate hearing on Tuesday, officials testified that over 20 US diplomats have been experiencing several physical symptoms since being stationed in the Cuban capital. The State Department and federal investigators say they haven’t found the source or cause of the ailments since they were first reported in 2016. They said, however, that the symptoms were most likely related to trauma from a non-natural source. The testifying officials said the incidents were caused by sonic attacks, claiming that Cuba withholds information in that regard. The Cuban government has slammed the accusations, saying they’re part of a political agenda from anti-Cuban senators.
