Kurdish civilians fear they will become targets if Turkey follows through with its threat to move against Kurdish fighters in Syria, which it calls "terrorists". The Turkish military is preparing a strike against YPG fighters, who form part of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces. Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on the NATO military alliance for support, accusing the US of violating its border. He says his military's operation is likely to centre on Afrin - and include Syrian rebels.
