Trump hard-line anti-immigrant demands blasted
Negotiations have turned sour between Democratic and Republican U-S senators over the fate of young, undocumented immigrants known as Dreamers. Lead Democratic negotiator Dick Durbin slammed the White House for making hard-line anti-immigrant demands. Durbin also criticized the Trump administration’s call for 18 billion dollars to fund the construction of a border wall with Mexico. Republicans, however, accused Democrats of forcing a deal to resolve the Dreamers’ status by delaying the approval of critical disaster aid and defense spending. The U-S president says such a deal needs to include funding for the proposed border wall. Hundreds of thousands of undocumented migrants will be subject to deportation in March when the Obama-era program known as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals expires. The issue also risks triggering a government shutdown on January the 20th IF no deal is reached. Over 100 of the young undocumented immigrants lose their protection from deportation on a daily basis.
